Unions from across the Twin Cities will commemorate May Day on Friday, May 1, and our union is no exception.

Your Local 34 siblings will gather at Government Plaza at noon on May 1, along with our siblings from Locals 552, 1719, 2822, 2864, and 2938. We will also gather with our Local 2822 siblings for the 20th annual International Workers’ Day march at Lake and Chicago at 4:30pm.

May Day commemorates the 1886 Chicago Haymarket affair, where workers demonstrated for better working conditions, including an eight-hour work day. Today, we contend with rising costs, stagnating wages, and privatization, all as we struggle to keep up with our workloads.

Though we are bound by a labor agreement that prevents us from striking, you can join us by flexing your lunch or by taking a legally-required break. We will have trucker hats for dues-paying members.

Other labor unions and organizations will hold actions across the metro. Learn more at https://www.iceoutnowmn.com/ and at https://educationminnesota.org/may-day-events.
